Meursault wine map: location and appellation

Meursault names a village and appellation in the Côte de Beaune, not one individual vineyard. It mainly produces Chardonnay whites, with a small amount of Pinot Noir red. A label with Premier Cru and a climat name is different from one carrying only the village appellation.

Is Meursault the same classification as Montrachet?

No. Meursault is a village appellation, while Montrachet is a separate Grand Cru. A Premier Cru site within Meursault is not part of Montrachet. Open each name on the map to compare its location and boundary.

A producer and a vineyard are different things

Wines carrying the same appellation can have different producers and vintages. A winery address does not identify every vineyard used for a wine or establish ownership. WineGIS is an independent map guide, not a wine shop or price-comparison service.

How to explore with WineGIS

  1. Start with the region, then zoom in to compare names and boundaries. Click a mapped feature to read its details and available sources.
  2. Switch between the base maps or use terrain tools where available. A mapped boundary, vineyard location and winery address describe different things.
  3. Add your own location markers and optional notes. They stay in your browser until you explicitly share a snapshot.

Coverage and limitations

INAO reference boundaries, commune boundaries and individual vineyards are different datasets. Check the selected feature and its sources. Coverage is not a complete inventory of parcels, producers or ownership, and is not a legal boundary survey.
